Awesome Family Fun!!!
I absolutely loved this movie! I loved the comedy, the storyline, the action, the effects, everything! This may be my 4th favorite movie of 2009 behind Friday the 13th, Land of the Lost, and Halloween II! I've seen a lot of negative reviews toward this movie, but some people take things a little too seriously. This movie is for the kid in all of us. While on summer vacation, the Pearson family go to three-story holiday house in the middle of nowhere. The kids; Hannah, Tom, and Bethany don't wanna go, but they are forced to. They meet more family members like Jake, Art, and Lee. When Bethany's boyfriend forces Tom to the roof, they see the aliens who want to take over the world. Throughout the day, the kids try to stop them, without their parents finding out. One alien, Sparks is not a threat to the humans and decides to become friends with Hannah. Sparks is a cute little alien, unlike Skip, Tazer, and Razor. Will the Pearson children stop the evil aliens from taking over the world? I...

We LOVED it
My almost 9 year-old son and I saw this together. It was VERY, VERY funny. We both thought so. (There were way too many male crotch gags, in my opinion, and of course, the law enforcement representative was an idiot. However, we didn't see his underwear; so, this movie was superior to other kid flicks.) Robert Hoffman is outrageously funny as Ricky the lying-loser boyfriend turned robot alien minion. Ashley Tisdale carries off another major role with credibility, humor, and grace. The DVD is already on my son's wish list for Christmas, and I will be recommending Aliens to my friends to watch with their kids. I will also recommend it to parents of teenage daughters who need a laugh, a break, or a reminder that Eddie Haskell didn't die with the Cleavers.

Surprisingly fun family entertainment
Before I saw this movie the previews gave me the impression that this was just another computer animated and effects driven films trying to exploit a kid's inherent interest in this stuff. It turns out this movie has more thought put into it and a good deal more heart than I assumed (that's what I get for assuming). Aliens in the Attic isn't an instant classic by any means. However it delivers on what you want in a family sci-fi film. Cute enough in some places, witty enough in others.

So yeah, the plot isn't Shakespeare. You have a family on vacation that gets visited by some diminutive (and not too bright) aliens bent on taking over the world. This plot is very close to the same vein as the 80's movie Spaced Invaders. The difference, and it is substantial enough to keep the two movies from being similar, is where the focus is. Shackleton

great adventure, action movie plus a true story
This is actually about the fourth or fifth Shackleton movie I have bought as a gift. I loved this movie and so have given it as a gift and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Kennett Branagh captures the spirit of Ernest Shackleton, the difficulties he encountered and the tremendous leadership abilities he displayed in taking care of his crew during extreme circumstances and weather. The rest of the cast in this movie are also very good, I really like this particular version of the Shackleton Journey the best and would highly recommend it. I don't usually watch movies several times, but this one I did and I do!

It's okay.
This movie wasn't as riveting and interesting as the book called "Endurance" which delivers every little detail of this ill-fated exploration. Reading "Endurance" made me feel the horrendous, torturous conditions these men suffered and miraculously lived through. The movie...not so much. Perhaps if you haven't read "Endurance", you might give this movie 5 stars. The best I can give it is three.

Shackleton--Branagh
Nicely done, good acting, good casting, good research. Does not shy much away from the horrors of the adventure and its repercussions for all (except by softening the fate of Mrs. Chippy and Chippy's response to it), and is an effective biopic.

Lisa and the Devil / The House of Exorcism: Remastered Edition

A long lost horror classic resurrected
The story of "Lisa and the Devil" is the stuff of movie legends: riding high after the success of Baron Blood and A Bay of Blood, the iconic horror director Mario Bava was given free reign for his next project: the surreal "Lisa and the Devil". Sadly, "Lisa..." flopped at the box office in Bava's native Italy and desperate to sell it overseas, the film's producer basically butchered the film in an act of cinematic murder. The film's ending was removed, new footage of lead actress Elke Sommer was shot with actor Robert Alda, that basically turned the film into bastardized rip-off of the Exorcist, with the remaining footage recast as an extended flashback sequence about Sommer's characters being possessed.

For decades, the removed footage was considered destroyed until they resurfaced late in the 1990s, at which point the restored "Lisa and the Devil" was resurrected. The film's reputation, having grown over the years due to the butchery done to it in the name of making it...

My favorite Bava
Mario Bava's Lisa and the Devil is, out of the 7 or 8 Bava films I've seen, my favorite. It casts Elke Sommer as a young American tourist who is visiting a busy Spanish town with a friend. After encountering a mysterious man in a shop, who it is suggested is the devil, she suddenly finds the town practically uninhabited. After she hitches a ride with a rich couple and their chauffeur, the car breaks down outside a mansion. After this point, the film becomes increasingly enigmatic; however, it is mysterious in a way I find fascinating and not frustrating. In addition, the film's considerable visual beauty, haunting ending and the charismatic presence of Telly Savalas (as the devil) add to its appeal for me. The Blu-ray looks very good overall, with some speckles I noticed occasionally being the one negative. I haven't watched The House of Exorcism (also on the Blu-ray), which is reportedly a butchering of Lisa and the Devil made to capitalize on the success of the then-popular...

An Amazing Cross Between Satanic Horror and Commedia d'el Arte
I originally got this on a PD version from Cheezy Films - and knew, immediately, that I had to own a good print of it! One of Mario Bava's (BLACK SUNDAY, DANGER: DIABOLIK, PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES) most surreal movies, LISA AND THE DEVIL tells the story of Elke Summer's Lisa, on a guided tour in Italy, who sees a portrait of Satan on the wall of a church - then meets a man who looks just like the portrait (Telly Savalas, a year or two before KOJAK) carrying a man tucked under his arm - or is it a mannequin that looks like that man? Lisa misses her tour bus, and accepts a ride from the aristocratic Lehar couple in a decrepit touring car which breaks down in front of an old, seemingly deserted mansion - and runs into the Satanic man again! He introduces himself as Leandro, the butler to the Countess and her son Maximillian who live there, and invites her and her companions inside. Once inside, it seems everybody mistakes Lisa for Elena - a woman it turns out the Countess's late husband...

Great movie great cast great universal story
This is one of my favorite European movies of this time. Joachim Trier is one of the best directors of the new generation. The cast is unforgettable, Anders Danielsen Lie embraces the angst of my generation with a stunning performance.

Twenty-four hours
A very tragic look into twenty-four hours of a recovering drug addict's life. You see just how much of a struggle life is after years of therapy and how he finds it difficult to reintegrate back into everyday life.

Seeing addiction from the eyes of the addict
This movie ends on a sad note but in a way that allowed me to accept and learn from the tragedy. The movie shows the complexity of addiction. It challenged me not to be judgmental, yet by the end, I accepted that the choices that people make have powerful consequences. I related to how the main character's broken state left him guessing at what is normal, and I was impressed by the way that the movie communicated this. This isn't a feel good movie, so don't bother if that's what you want. It is deep and creative on a whole new level. It is one the most creative portrayals of human brokenness that I have ever seen.

Marley & Me [HD]

Stayed Faithful to the Book
'Marley & Me' is a great adaptation of the novel by Josh Grogan. It kept all the emotional elements as well as the fun. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson had amazing chemistry together in this heartfelt film. It is more than just a dog movie, surpassing hit dog films such as 'Beethoven,' '101 Dalmations,' and 'Homeward Bound.' This film concentrates on the family and how a dog affected the lives of this family for both good and bad. It's a good representation of a young couple and how they evolve as they have children and move on in life. Along with it, is shows the life cycle of a dog, which is something that rarely gets shown honestly in films. It shows the good, the bad, and the painfully tragic elements of having a dog. The end of the film is very true to the book and I'm glad because it is probably the most important part of the story and it's nice to see it portrayed honestly for fans of the book.

Bad Dog Edition for the Fans!
There are quite a bit of extras on the "Bad Dog Edition" that fans of this film will no doubt enjoy exploring.

There is a collection of 19 deleted scenes with optional commentary by director David Frankel. We see John and Jenny go house hunting in Boca Raton. There is more footage of them choosing to adopt Marley. Naturally, there is more of Marley's antics as well.

"Finding Marley" takes a look at the 22 dogs used in the film. One dog in particular had the most screen time. We see how his trainer got him to do various things and it is amazing to see how well trained he is.

"On the Set with Marley: Dog of all Trades" is an "interview" with the dog that played Marley including on the set footage provided by a camera located on the pooch's head.

"Breaking the Golden Rule" features the cast and crew talking about how Marley & Me is not a dog film per se but about the Grogan family. The cast speaks admiringly of each other and, of course, the...

Good if you're looking for something different...but put the kids to bed first.
There is a lot of controversy about this movie....it seems like people either love it or hate it. I'm in between....

I did not see Marley and Me in the theaters but being a dog-lover since I was born, I was interested and borrowed the DVD from my boss a few days ago as my mother wanted to see it as well.

For all you who have heard from lots of angry parents claiming "false advertising" and "deceiving trailers", I'd like to confirm that yes, that is somewhat true. If I had young brothers or sisters or children of my own, who wanted to see a cute and funny family dog movie, "Marely and Me" is not the movie that comes to mind here.

This for two reasons:

One, the movie's focus is on the marriage of a new couple and their struggles through a married life. It doesn't soley focus on the dog, he more so takes a backseat in most of the film, apart from the first hour or so. Children will adore the puppy Marley in the beginning, but their attention...

Brand New Day [HD]

An aussie treat
I'm not a great fan of musicals but this one won me over a few songs in, when it became clear this was not some schmaltzy precious view of Australian culture. Warm-hearted and post-modern, fun with an historical edge... it reeks of a new Australian Aboriginal confidence. It looks great too! Watch this instead of "Australia"!

Loved this DVD!
I caught the show early one morning and fell in love with the characters, the storyline, and the amazing music. Lots of predictible plot twists, but a great show with a lot of very sly humor throughout. The music is hard to forget ... you will remember it and keep humming it for days to come!

Super Fun Movie
I watched this when I was living in Australia and fell in love with it. I am so happy it has finally come out in the US!
Be prepared to have these songs stuck in your head for days!

Meet Dave [HD]

The most underrated movie of the year
Meet Dave is absolutely incredible. The movie centers around a crew of minute humanoid aliens from planet Nil. They are logical, emotionless creatures who do not know about things like love. They send a special device to Earth to drain the oceans and harvest the salt - their main power source - to avoid a massive energy crisis on Nil. In their ship, shaped like a normal-sized human being, the crew (the main characters being the naive Captain, the by-the-book No.2, the pretty No. 3, and the seemingly butch security officer No. 4 who discovers a different side of himself; as well as No. 17 the repairman and the Head Engineer, No. 10) discover new things about Earth through a woman named Gina and her son, Josh, who has found the orb that they had sent. Emotions start to rub off on the crew from the Earthlings.

I think a lot of people didn't see this movie because of Eddie Murphy. I've heard he is not a nice person in real life, so that might be why. To properly enjoy this...

A fun bit of fluff
Dave is a silly bit of fluff staring Eddie Murphy as both the ship (a ship shaped like a man in a white suit) and as the captain), a tiny 1-inch tall man. The ship and crew arrive on earth to drain the salt from Earth's oceans to save their homeworld. This is okay because earth is clearly a planet full of savages. However, as time passes and the crew of the ship becomes more attached to the 'giants' which surround them, they begin to reconsider their feelings on the matter.

I found this film kind of amusing. It isn't rocket science, and there are times when bathroom humor prevails (such as when the giant ship must dispose of food it has 'consumed' to look human). But this is probably something kids will enjoy.

Overall, I was amused enough to watch this film from beginning to end, although, I kind of wish we could've seen what happened to #2 Murphy's second in command, even if he did go a bit rambo at the end, he did have a bit of a point. Murphy's acting was...

MEET DAVE IS AN EDDIE MURPHY CLASSIC !!!!!
It was horrible to hear that this movie did not do well at the box office. I must admit that I wanted to go see it, but do to all the negative reviews, I waited for it on DVD. ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS & CRITICS ARE WRONG !!!! This movie made me laugh throughout. How hard is it to make a clean comedy? It has to be real hard, because not too many people can do it. I just hope that this does not stop Eddie. Great movie for adults and children.
